BUFFALO, N.Y. — As the Sabres continue to heat up on the ice, their game-time action isn't the only thing gaining excitement.
Thursday, the team announced the formation of the Buffalo Sabres Warriors and the Buffalo Sabres sled hockey teams.
The two new veteran-based hockey teams will have the financial backing to the tune of more than a quarter millions dollars over the next three years thanks to contributions by National Fuel, the Sabres Foundation and the Sabres Alumni Association. That money will help pay for uniforms, equipment, ice time, tournaments, and more.
"I'm grateful that they're giving me a chance to play. I hope to see more veterans out here, I hope to see some younger guys that have come off the battlefield get a chance to do this. I think it'll make them feel good," said Dan Ohar, sled hockey player.
Twenty-six veterans will be competing in the USA Disabled Hockey Festival in Dallas in April.
