Jayme Smith gets no jail time at sentencing
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The wife of Buffalo Common Council Member Demone Smith will not see any jail time for bank fraud.
Jayme Smith was sentenced Monday to time served plus two years of supervised release from U.S. District Judge William Skretny. She was also ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution.
Smith was convicted in a scheme in which prosecutors say she got others to cash counterfeit checks which she created.
Demone Smith was not accused of any wrongdoing.
