CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — The Bemus Point - Stow Ferry on Chautauqua Lake has re-opened after weeks of setbacks.
New York State implemented new rules for boats that require bilge pumps with alarms, anchors and loud horns.
Ferry personnel say the modifications have been made, and the summer icon is back in action.
"That's what Chautauqua Lake is all about is water tourism industry, and this is one of the backbones for it. The people we run here, its just a pleasure," said John Cheney, Ferry operator.
There has been a ferry on the lake for 201 years. The current ferry boat has been in operation since the 1920s.
