BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Zoo celebrated the birthday of one of their four Western lowland gorillas on Wednesday.
Lilly the Gorilla turned 12-years-old.
Zookeepers gave Lilly gifts and decorated the gorilla habitat with streamers and toys. Inside the gift boxes were cereals, which is a treat for the gorillas, who normally eat vegetables.
Zookeepers say Lilly is now reaching adulthood, but zookeepers won't speculate on the potential of a new baby gorilla.
"We always like to see breeding among the gorillas here in the Zoo. Hopefully, in the future that would be something we see. We don't anticipate it in the near future, but it would be great to see with Lilly," said Rachel Gottlieb, Zoo PR coordinator.
The Zoo says it looked like two-year old Ahmaree had more fun with the gifts and decorations than the birthday girl.
