Trooper Hurt In Crash on I-190 in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- New York State Police say the trooper was hit by another car while driving on the I-190 Monday morning around 8 a.m. near the Niagara Falls Blvd. exit in Niagara Falls.
State Police say Eric Smith of Lewiston was driving too fast for the conditions on the I-190 Northbound when he lost control of his car. He crossed the median into the southbound lanes and hit the trooper's Chevy Tahoe.
State Police say the trooper, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital and underwent tests but his injuries don't appear to be serious.
"The injuries don't appear to be too threatening but has some cuts and scrapes and he's sore," said Sgt. Ronald Warner with the New York State Police.
State Police say Monday morning's wintry mix played a role in the crash.
"When it snows out, slow down," Sgt. Warner said. "Roads may appear fine but the overpasses could still be frozen. That's where he lost control, while going over an overpass."
Smith was charged with Failure to Keep Right and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent.
The investigation is continuing and State Police remind drivers to take it slow in bad weather.
