Layoffs announced by Thruway Authority
A spokesperson for the State Thruway Authority says the agency is eliminating 234 positions due to budget issues.
Of those positions, 192 will be at the Thruway Authority, while 42 jobs will be eliminated in the Canal Corporation.
There is no regional breakdown yet of where the jobs are going to be, but all regions will likely be impacted.
Thruway Authority leaders expect there to be roughly $20 million in savings as a result of the layoffs. Those won't take effect until April 3rd.
