The Spa Spot: Day 26 wrap

<span style="color:#cc0000"><em>The Spa Spot: </em></span>Day 26 wrap
When it's all said and done in a couple of weeks, there is a very good chance that this was the best weather day of the meet: warm, sunny, low humidity and a little breeze. The track conditions were ideal, too: fast and firm. The Sword Dancer featured a fine performance by Point of Entry. Questing was even better in the Alabama

  • With her nine-length win in the Alabama, Questing joined some remarkable fillies who have won the historic race by decisive margins in recent years: Go for Wand was seven lengths the best in 1990, Heavenly Prize matched that margin of victory in 1994 and Silverbulletday crushed the 1999 field by nine lengths.

  • Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez continued his steady climb up the standings with three more victories Saturday. Despite missing the first four days and riding a limited scheduled in his return from injury, Velazquez has 20 wins and stands fourth.

  • The parade of winning favorites continued with five prevailing in the 11 races. The meet percentage is up to a even 37.

  • On-track attendance jumped three percent to 34,308. The on-track handle was up six percent to $5,474,626 and the total handle climbed five percent to $23,209,923.
