Sabres interested in Doan
The Sabres signed one of their two first round draft picks on Friday, forward Zemgus Girgensons. As for the free agent market, there's been very little movement of late. General manager Darcy Regier says there's a limited talent pool and the competition for what's out there will be tough.
One of the big names still on the table is Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan.
While he's made it known he'd like to stay in Phoenix, various reports have the 35-year-old forward highly coveted by many teams around the league - one of those being the Sabres.
Doan would bring leadership and veteran experience. He scored 22 goals with 28 assists for Phoenix last season.
"We have contacted them," Regier said. "I think if you saw his reports, he was going to give Phoenix additional time going to next week and then make a decision as to where he was going to go. Hopefully if he does that, we'll be in consideration."
