Bring on the coaching rumors

By: Don Heins

Bring on the rumors. The Bills are once again in the mix for a head coach, and are acting like one of the more active teams in the NFL. Multiple reports say that Russ Brandon and company were in Arizona Tuesday night and met with former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt. The interest from both sides is said to be high.

Additionally, the team may be looking to meet up with Chip Kelly surrounding Oregon's bowl game. CBS Sports reports the Bills will interview Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton Wednesday. ESPN has reported that the Bills plan to interview Syracuse coach Doug Marrone and Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. Former Bears coach Lovie Smith is also said to be interested.

At least early on, we're in quite a different situation than three years ago. During that coaching search, we kept hearing about the names who had no interest in the Buffalo job. So far there appears to be optimism on that front, but we won't know for sure until the Bills land a highly qualified candidate. And even then, we won't know for a few years if he was the right one.
