Sabres snap losing streak
For one night anyway, the Sabres are back in the win column. The relief was easy to see when Tyler Ennis and Ryan Miller embraced in their customary style following the game. The Sabres have snapped a four game skid, with a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The game began with an all too familiar feeling. Teddy Purcell carried the puck right to the front of the net, and Steven Stamkos went uncovered in the slot to slip the rebound by Ryan Miller just 1:24 into the game.
Cody Hodgson provided the response for the Sabres at about the midway point of the period. From behind the net, the young center attempted to pass the puck to Jason Pominville when it struck the skate of Tampa defenseman Sami Salo and deflected into the net.
From there, Ryan Miller led the Sabres through. The goaltender finished with 30 saves. The Sabres killed all six of their penalties.
Tyler Myers provided the game winner, just :52 into the third period. Lightning goaltender Mathieu Garon got caught out of position, and the big defenseman unleashed an accurate shot from the point.
The Sabres face the Panthers on Thursday, before returning home to host the Devils Saturday.
