WESTFIELD, N.Y. -- "Just a very sad day," said Joan Morton of Westfield.

That is how Morton described the news of a death early Sunday morning at the Brookside Beach Campground on Route 5 in Westfield.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's office released few details, but according to deputies, a camper fell over a cliff about forty feet on to a beach area of Lake Erie.

The owners of the campground did not want to appear on camera, but told YNN they are upset over the situation. They would not release any details on the incident.

Neighbors near the campsite said the news is upsetting.

"Certainly a tragic incident and I know all of our hearts and prayers are with the family that are concerned with this incident," said Morton.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
