WEST SENECA, N.Y. -
A horse from the Erie County Sheriff's Mounted Division was killed in a late night crash on the 219. Deputy Joe Metzger says there was a mechanical problem, and the horse's trailer began to sway.
Metzger slowed down, but the trailer unhitched and flipped over killing the horse.
The Quarter horse in his mid 20's was also named Joe.
The two had just finished working at the Italian Festival in North Buffalo.
Joe will be buried Friday on a farm in Marilla.
Metzger was not hurt in the crash.
