BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Department's internal affairs unit continues investigating an officer involved shooting. It happened yesterday afternoon on the city's east side. The victim is now listed in serious condition at ECMC.
Police say officers were responding to a domestic call on Walden Avenue when 19-year-old Lamont Cooper, ran from the scene with a loaded handgun and ended up in a scuffle with an officer. Police say Cooper reached for his gun, and the officer shot him once in the thigh.
He was taken to E-C-M-C with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries
and was under police guard overnight.
Charges against Cooper include assault and harassment from the domestic incident,
as well as possession of a loaded weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and menacing a police officer.
The officer's name has not been released.
