BUFFALO, N.Y. - With the start of fall, comes the start of Oktoberfest. And Saturday, tons of people gathered at Canalside to celebrate German culture.
As one of the area's longest running celebrations, the 50th annual Oktoberfest kicked off at the Central Wharf.
Hundreds of people braved the windy and rainy conditions and celebrated under a tent with plenty of authentic food and beer.
Festival-goers enjoyed German dances and music - something organizers say is a part of the heritage they want people of all ages to embrace.
"You see families here and people - young people, older people, - every generation is here enjoying it,” said Julie Miszuk, one of the event organizers. “And just the atmosphere itself, you can feel the electricity in the tent."
Oktoberfest is a two-week festival originating in Munich, Bavaria and Germany, and is celebrated throughout the world.
