OLEAN, N.Y. — People living in parts of Olean will have a chance to weigh in Tuesday on a brownfield clean-up program in the city.

City development leaders are looking to develop a 500-acre industrial site that covers several city streets. The former oil refinery and storage operation has been contaminated for several years now.

Companies like Exxon Mobile have already signed on to help clean up several sections of the site.

Residents who vote in that area Tuesday will be able to view the overall study and provide feedback.
"From I-86, it's cut part of the neighborhood, they lack parks, open space, their quality of life is affected, as everyone else's is," said Mary George, Olean Community Development Coordinator. "You know, this is a gateway to Olean, the entrance."

The brownfield plan will be made available at the St John's facility from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
