CLARENCE, N.Y. -- From the moment collection started at 6 a.m. Tuesday, cars full of goods were being unloaded outside the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence. For the second straight year, the Food Bank of Western and Kiss 98.5 teamed up for one of the largest food drives of the year.

Kiss 98.5 DJ Nicholas Picholas said, "You hear that story. It's never a story that anyone wants to tell. You don't want to tell people that you're having a hard time and things aren't good. But when you hear it, it touches you. You feel something in your heart.

Food drives, like the one Tuesday in Clarence, will help feed more than 30,000 Western New Yorkers this Thanksgiving Day.

Food Bank of WNY President & CEO Marylou Borowiak said, "We now have more than 36,000 households and families relying on the services of the Food Bank of WNY. If you do the math, it's about a 18% increase from last year."

The Food Bank of Western New York serves nearly 350 agencies in four Western New York counties. In recent years, the Food Bank has received less money from the Federal Government and has relied heavily on food drives. Last year, the Clarence food drive collected more than 7,000 pounds of food.

"We were able to distribute over 10,000 meals in our local community. Every one of these drives add up," Borowiak said.
