A Brant woman is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI after a crash Tuesday morning that killed a baby in the Cattaraugus Territory. YNN's Kaitlyn Lionti tells us the force of the crash split one of the cars in two.

A captain with the Erie County Sheriff's Office tells us 24-year-old Danielle Kellogg of Brant, who was driving the Explorer, crossed into the path of the Grand Am, which carried 31-year-old Denise Hine of Hamburg and her seven-month-old daughter, Baylee Marie Dion.

"When the Explorer came over, appears she attempted to avoid the collision by going to the left, which made good sense, but the Explorer caught the car right in the passenger side. Horrendous impact, it tore the car that had the mom and the baby in it right into two pieces. They came to rest about 50 feet apart," said Captain Ron Kenyon of the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

Employees of the Signals Gas Station ran over to help.

"Good Samaritans took the baby out and were attempting to provide care to the baby."

Kenyon says, according to witnesses, the baby Baylee was still secured in her car seat after the crash. She was declared dead at Lake Shore Health Care Center. Denise Hine was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC, where she's in serious condition.

Kenyon says it's the kind of incident that leaves an impact, not just on the families, but the first responders as well.

"It's one of the few ones you see like that; it's just traumatic."

Kellogg is charged with DWI and second degree vehicular manslaughter. She was was treated at ECMC and released.
