Police are investigating a home invasion in the city's University Heights district. This comes just a few days after an elderly man was assaulted in another incident. YNN's Kevin Jolly talked with one resident about the recent incidents.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — "It just reminded me that I have to be cautious, keep... stay prepared, stay vigilant," said Nate, a University Heights resident.

Nate, who didn't want his face shown, lives on Tyler Street in Buffalo's University Heights district, just a few doors away from where police say just before 3 a.m. Friday, two men claiming to have guns forced their way into this home and stole several possessions before fleeing. Luckily, the occupants were not hurt.

"It's not something that one really wants to ever have to face. To be prepared is one thing but I to actually face it, that would suck," said Nate.

This latest incident comes just a few days after an elderly man was brutally assaulted during a break-in at his home on Longview Avenue. Police say up to three suspects entered the home then beat and robbed the 96-year-old occupant. He's listed in fair condition at ECMC with a broken jaw. The suspects destroyed parts of the house before making off with cash, jewelry, guns, and other items.

"We generally provide information on things that members of the community can do to safeguard themselves when they ask for it, but it's important to note that this was not a random act," said Buffalo mayor Byron Brown.

In fact, police say most of these types of crimes are committed by people who know their victims. And as police continue to investigate both incidents, Nate says he'll remain vigilant to make sure he doesn't become a victim.

"It is something I worry about not excessively. I just make sure I lock my doors and keep anything that could be stolen sort of inside so as to not provide an opportunity for it," said Nate.
