Whooping Cough cases on the rise in Chautauqua County
CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. --- Cases of pertussis are the highest in nearly 50 years according to the C-D-C and health officials in Chautauqua County say that number is continuing to go up there.
They say this week alone, 24 new cases of the disease commonly known as whooping cough have been confirmed there.
The health department has confirmed 100 cases so far this year.
Most of the cases seem to be concentrated in the southern part of the county.
Good hand washing and the vaccine are the best prevention methods.
Health professionals recommend booster shots every ten years along with one for tetanus.
