BUFFALO, N.Y. — About three dozen Army National Guard soldiers are home with their families today, just in time for the holidays.
Lots of hugs and happy tears as families were reunited Wednesday morning at the armory on Connecticut Street.
The soldiers of the 27th Infantry Brigade spent nearly a year deployed overseas, most of them in Kuwait. They did logistics, administrative and security missions while deployed, but didn't find out they were coming home for the holidays until about a week ago.
"We were all looking forward to getting back before the holidays, and now that we’re here, we’re all very happy to be here as you can tell," said Lt. Derek Garner. "So it was definitely good news to here that because we knew it was up in the air a little bit but once we got word that we should be back, we were very happy.”
They came back to Camp Shelby in Mississippi before making their way home to their overjoyed families.
