ASHVILLE, N.Y. — A public hearing was held Wednesday evening in Ashville to discuss the next phase of a plan to manage weed growth in Chautauqua Lake.

The hearing focused on the Draft Scoping Document which sets the course for the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan.

It's part of the overall Chautauqua Lake watershed plan, which ultimately will include DEC approved methods for controlling lake weeds.

"This is the very first step in the process in developing a Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan. And subsequent approval of, and drafting of, the Environmental Impact Statement," said Jeffrey Diers, Chautauqua County Watershed Coordinator.

Coordinators say they will compile the pubic comments from the hearing and begin to draft a plan.
