Occupy Sandy hosts hurricane relief benefit and concert

BUFFALO, NY--Members of Occupy Buffalo collaborated with Communications Workers of America Friday evening to hold a concert and benefit for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Two out of every five dollars paid for admission to Sportsmen's Tavern in Buffalo will go towards Sandy relief efforts. Those attending the concert were also able to bring monetary gifts for Sandy victims. Occupy organizers say that donations have helped the group to begin major efforts to help those in areas that were hit hardest by the storm.

"With all the Occupy networks that were established in the last year, people through social media, Tweeting, Facebook were able to get people out into neighborhoods like a day or two after the storm," said Occupy Sandy member Jackie Splain.
