AMHERST, N.Y. -- While Santa's reindeer prepare for the big night, the man in red took a different form of transportation Saturday to help spread the spirit of giving in Amherst.

Santa rode along with the Ellicott Creek Fire Department, collecting bags of non-perishable food from local homeowners.

The donations will be given to local Boy Scout troops for their food drives.

Organizers say the tradition is something people of all ages look forward to every Christmas.

“They look forward to this every year, they call us, want to know when we're going to be by, looking forward to seeing Santa,” said Ellicott Creek Fire Chief Dave Demeester.

If you weren't around when Santa stopped by, you can still drop donations off at the South Ellicott Creek Road Fire Station.
