BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tens of thousands of people rang in 2013 in downtown Buffalo with the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.
New Year's Eve revelers braved the cold temperatures to watch the 25th annual ball drop from the Electric Tower. It's the second-largest event of its kind in the country, behind only New York City.
This year's drop featured improvements to the light fixture, including new energy efficient and brighter LED lighting for the ball.
Fireworks immediately followed the drop.

Thousands of people celebrated the New Year just a few blocks over at Statler City, where several parties were held.
This year's festivities included food, drinks, and dancing in several ballrooms within the hotel.
Statler City managers say this year's event was more organized.
"This year we had a lot more controls. We limited the number of tickets that we sold, everyone had a seat so they could enjoy themselves, so operationally, things were great," said Jamie Evan, Statler City.
Nearly 1,000 people rang in the New Year at the Hotel Lafayette, which had a casino themed party.
