BUFFALO, N.Y. — The new year got off to a great start for one lucky couple at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Hailey Matesich was the first local baby born in 2013. She is eight pounds and three ounces and is Danielle and Mark Matesich's first child.

Danielle went into labor a few days after Christmas, but it wasn't until just after the ball dropped that Hailey arrived. She came into the world with a bang.

"Well, we had some pushing going on and all of a sudden I heard some noise in the background which happened to be the fireworks outside, and then very shortly afterwards she was, she was here," said Mark Matesich.

Hailey was one of four New Year's babies born at the hospital as of Monday afternoon.
