Covanta Niagara tax deal approved
NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — Energy company Covanta Niagara in Niagara Falls has been approved for a tax deal that will allow Covanta to convert waste from New York City.

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency voted Wednesday morning and the company now has a 15-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes deal.

The company plans to build a new steam pipeline and railway at its Buffalo Avenue facility.
The company will convert waste to steam energy.

Many neighbors opposed Covanta Niagara's $30 million infrastructure improvement plan. Neighbors say they're concerned the project would bring additional waste to the area.

The company says that's not the case.
