BUFFALO, NY--Boxers from all over New York State came to Buffalo Saturday evening to take part in the opening night of the annual Golden Gloves Boxing tournament.

Hundreds of spectators packed the Tralf Music Hall to watch the tournament sponsored by Carubba Collision. The championship includes thirty-four fights featuring boxing talent from several different classes.

Organizers say the event is a great way for young talented boxers to make a name for themselves in a prestigious tournament.

"All of our young people need an outlet, they need something that can develop character, teach them work ethic and all of those things that are going to make them successful in life. And that's what the Golden Gloves does", said Don Patterson, one of the event's organizers.

The New York State Golden Gloves boxing tournament started in Buffalo in 1929.
