BUFFALO, N.Y. — Notre Dame Academy will welcome students from both Ambrose and Trinity Academies starting next year.

The Diocese of Buffalo made the announcement during an informational meeting for parents Thursday night.

School board members said the economy and the lower enrollment numbers have made it more difficult to maintain both campuses.

Officials said the merger was necessary to provide more resources on their educational programs at Notre Dame.

"In order to continue the strength of that school, with it's Catholic identity and high moral standards, and high academics, we needed to reconfigure the school from three buildings to one building," said Sister Joan Sherry, South Buffalo School Board Chair.

There were more than 2,000 students attending South Buffalo Catholic Elementary Schools ten years ago. That number has since dropped to 600.
