Remembering the Challenger disaster
The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster happened 27 years ago Monday.

On January 28th, 1986 the shuttle exploded 73 seconds into the flight.

Seven people were killed, including UB alum Gregory Jarvis, who graduated from UB with a degree in electrical engineering.

Christa McAuliffe, who would have been the first teacher in space, was also on board.

The explosion was caused by a rocket booster failure that ignited the fuel tank.
