Bracing for snow

By: YNN Staff

The snow that's been hitting the Southern Tier is expected to move north into Buffalo and the Northtowns late Friday night and into Saturday. YNN's Katie Cummings has more on how they are preparing at the town of Tonawanda Highway Department Building.

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Eight trucks have been out salting the roads in the town of Tonawanda since 6:30 p.m. Friday.

While the Southtowns are used to dealing with lake effect snow, it's less common in the Northtowns. But Highway Superintendent William Swanson says if the snow gets heavy, they're ready to send the plows out. Swanson also says the time of day will help plowing efforts.

"It depends on the time of day too. If its rush hour, it's a little harder to get things done, but since its a weekend we can get out there real quick and there won't be a lot of traffic and well get it cleaned up," Swanson said.

Swanson says the highway department will call in extra crews if the snow starts to get heavy.
