"Souper Bowl" fundraiser helps battle hunger

"Souper Bowl" fundraiser helps battle hunger
SPRINGVILLE, NY--A southtowns charity put a tasty spin on the NFL's biggest game Saturday to battle hunger.

The trading post community center in Springville held its fourth annual "Souper Bowl" with proceeds benefiting the Community Kitchen there.

Hundreds of people tried more than a dozen different soups, along with appetizers and desserts. Those in attendance had the chance to use one of several bowls that were handmade by local students. Organizers said hunger is a widespread problem they can help solve.

"We just are here to really raise awareness that there are a lot of hunger needs, especially with the disabled and especially with our seniors. They are very much needing this kind of support", said Linette Crelly, one of the event's organizers.

The trading post will host a winter bag sale to benefit a local charity later this month.
