BUFFALO, N.Y. — From a metal kazoo made in Eden to a buffalo-shaped cutting board, the Visit Buffalo Niagara's visitor centers are chock full of all things Buffalo.
Beef on weck, chicken wing, and sponge candy ornaments were among their biggest sellers this past holiday season.
"Every purchase gets paid forward, in terms of trying to get more people to come to our market," Peter Burakowski, Visit Buffalo Niagara Communications Director, told YNN.
You can also find Buffalo clothing, hats, coasters and even a game of Buffalo-Opoly.
Seven months ago, Visit Buffalo Niagara opened a visitor center at the Buffalo Niagara International airport. It's sales are already at $100,000. Their new web store has sold another $10,000.
The money goes right back into marketing the city to attract tourists, residents, and businesses.
"Every person that comes to our market is a new dollar spent in our region, which helps our economy," Burakowski explained.
He says Buffalonians have a lot to be proud of and show off. Others agree.
"Buffalo architecture," said one woman.
"Lake Erie, the waterfront, Niagara Falls," another man said.
"The cold and snow," a third Buffalonian said.
Burakowski hopes the quirky items will help get the word out about the area's food, art and culture, while bringing the tourism revenue in.
