CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — Several Chautauqua County residents either are or soon will be out of work but a local agency wants to remind them there is still hope.

Officials at Chautauqua Works say the closure of businesses like Closure Systems International in Randolph and Cash and Carry in Falconer will lead to a larger unemployment pool.

But agency officials said there are still many employers in the region looking for reliable employees, and it can help the unemployed make a connection.

"We talk to those employees, those affected employees, about how strong that work ethic that they have been able to prove and to show through their longevity at their current job that they are unfortunately about to lose, what a value that is, to any employer that they are going to potentially be interviewing at," said Katie Geise, Workforce Investment Board.

Chautauqua Works has offices in Jamestown and Dunkirk.
