MAYVILLE, N.Y. — County legislators are seeking reimbursement for what they're calling yet another unfunded mandate. The move comes after the state approves pay raises for legal officials.

County leaders say the state passed legislation significantly raising the state-paid salaries for county judges which forces the counties to raise their DA's salaries to match.

A motion asking for compensation for the difference was approved during Wednesday's Public Safety committee meeting.

"It will give our legislative representatives something to say, 'hey, we got this letter from Chautauqua County and they're not happy about this,'" said Jay Gould, (R) Chautauqua County District 19.

The motion will come before the full legislature at next Wednesday's meeting.
