BEMUS POINT, N.Y. — A winter fundraising competition on Chautauqua Lake is being extended after the forecast shows more cold weather in the near future.
The Chautauqua Lake Ice Pick competition is a guessing game of when a wooden structure will fall through the ice. This year, the event will benefit the Chautauqua Lake Association.
Tuesday, coordinators announced they are extending the guessing period an extra week and a half until March 10th.
"We have the web cam up here that will show when it goes in the water and we've got a double timer on the tripod itself that will stop when it gets wet," said Peter Sullivan, Chautauqua Lake Ice Pick Coordinator.
The closest guess will receive more than $2,700, with the five runners up getting more than $500 each.
